Hydro Excavation is a precise, cost-effective and non-invasive method of excavation
Drain Solutions – Hydro Excavation
Hydro Excavation uses a Hydro-Vacuum truck fitted with a combination of a high-pressure water jetter and a large vacuum.
The high-pressure water is used to turn the hard ground into mud.
At the same time, the vacuum removes/sucks the mud/dirt into the Hydro-Vacuum Truck.
At the completion of the Vacuum Loading/Excavation, the mud or dirt is removed from the site.
Using Non-Destructive Digging will not damage underground services, utilities, assets or tree roots.
The use of Vacuum Excavation will enable smaller size holes to be dug and it is much easier to dig and expose buried underground utilities.
Non-Destructive Digging is a cost-effective, non-intrusive and risk-reducing method of locating underground infrastructure before you excavate.
Hydro Excavation minimises the impact on the local environment and disruptions to pedestrian and traffic flow.
Hydro Excavation can be used to install root barriers or digging trenches close to trees without damaging the trees root system.
We specialise in tight and restricted access areas.
Our combination vacuum and water jet truck is only 7.2m long, 2.3m wide and 3.1m high.
It can access tight areas such as schools and small factories, yet allowing maintenance of drains from 100mm up to 900mm.
Our medium size High-Pressure Water Jet Truck is only 2m high and 1.9m wide.
This enables us to access any underground carpark with a 2m clearance.

How does Hydro Excavation differ from traditional mechanical excavation?
The use of mechanical excavating equipment such as excavators, bobcats, augers, backhoes and trenchers can destroy expensive underground infrastructure.
Damage to utilities such as electricity, communication cables, gas, water, sewer and stormwater pipes can be reduced or eliminated using Vacuum Excavation.
This is first done with the help of an Underground Utility Locator which confirms the location and depth of these utilities.
Vacuum Excavation is then used to expose and visually identify the buried utility.
High-Pressure Water from our Hydro Excavation truck turns the hard ground into mud.
At the same time, the large vacuum on our truck removes/sucks the mud/dirt into the truck for removal from site.
Does Drain Solutions provide Underground Utility Locating Services?
Here at Drain Solutions, we also provide an Underground Utility Locating service to locate conductive services like power, gas mains and water mains.
We are a Telstra & Optus Accredited Plant Locator in optic fibre and copper.
Potholing or Asset Proving, as it is also known, involves exposing the underground service or services.
This establishes safe digging areas without any damage to expensive underground plant.
